Wendy and I are from the Deep South. Alabama to be exact. We are retirees and have decided to spend our time traveling and exploring in an RV. Like so many retirees these days we love the great outdoors! There are so many beautiful places and landscapes to explore and we can’t wait to experience and share them with you!
Our first stop is Clear Creek Recreation Area on what has been rated as one of cleanest lakes in America!
Lewis Smith Lake is a man made Lake that was created by Alabama Power company in 1961. Clear Creek is located at 8079 Fall City Road, Jasper, AL. It is the Bankhead National Forest’s largest recreation area. It has a boat launch, with many fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, striped bass and crappie. There are bike trails as well as hiking trails.
The campground itself has four paved loops and offers 102 RV campsites. Each campsite offers water and 30/50 amp electric hookups but no sewer. There is a nice dump station. There are bathhouses strategically located throughout that offer showers and flush toilets that are pretty basic but accommodating. The sites are mostly level and are a good size. You also have a fire ring, picnic table and lantern posts on each site.
We love hiking and enjoyed the Raven Trail. The trail was especially good as we loved the many rock formations, bluffs, and beautiful trees. We also rode our bikes along this trail. It is about 2.5 miles and took about an hour to hike it.
Being out in nature give us so much peace and relaxation! Whether you are a retiree or are still working it is our hope that you can enjoy some time in the great outdoors if that is your desire.
You can book this campground on Recreation.gov for $30 per night with a small booking fee.
