This state park is located in northeast Alabama near Huntsville. Monte Sano in Spanish means “Mountain of Health”. The air was so fresh on the mountain and the views were amazing!
This park offers 20 miles of hiking trails and 14 miles of biking trails. Although we didn’t do all the miles, we did our fair share and enjoyed it immensely. You can get some good exercise while seeing lots of beauty, especially if you enjoy the fall colors.
Wendy and I especially enjoyed the Japanese garden and planetarium. Lots of detail work was done.
If you are into disc golf Monte Sano offers one of the best courses around. The 18-hole course spans the entire top of the mountain. Also, there is a large playground for the kiddos.
The park has 89 campsites with different levels of accommodation up to full hookups! The sites are mostly level. We recommend booking early if you want full hookups or for any other site for that matter. We were told this park has the second highest demand for sites in the Alabama State Park system behind only Gulf State Park.
We highly recommend this park!
