Wendy and I consider ourselves southern snow birds.😀 Being from north Alabama, when January and February come around we want to “fly” even further south for the winter. So here we are as far south as you can go in Texas!

The weather here in January is warm with mostly sunny days and fair nightly temperatures. Certainly better than freezing temperatures at home. It does get windy at times.
The beaches are wide and beautiful with plenty of open space. Many were taking advantage of the wind by flying their various style kites.

The hour encompassing just before until just after sunset is often referred to as the “golden hour”. And we definitely love this time of day and its beauty.

As we have said in the past, we love lighthouses. When there is one just across the Queen Isabella Causeway in Port Isabel… we just had to see it! The unique outside dining area at the Pirate’s Landing features several pirates, one even walking the plank. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

Since we were so close to the border of Mexico we made our way to it. The wall and the Rio Grande are normal parts of the landscape at the border.

You just can’t resist some authentic street tacos at a Mexican restaurant, Taqueria Ultimo Taco, near the border. The printed menu is written in Spanish, fortunately, there was one hostess who was able to help us order! 😀 Food was delicious!!

The landscape here is beautiful! The lush foliage and the jetties.

We stayed at Isla Blanca RV Park. It is a large county park with over 600 full hookup sites. There is good space between most sites. It is beachfront and has pavilions, shaded picnic areas, and a boat ramp with a full service marina. Many restaurants and shops are close by. We utilized and enjoyed the walking/bike trails that surrounded the park. We didn’t have to do a lot of day trip planning as there were so many activities within and adjacent to the RV park. This made it nice and relaxing!
We highly recommend South Padre Island for your RV trip planning as we have thoroughly enjoyed our time.
We are staying south and plan to be in Melbourne, Florida in February. See you next month!
