Sometimes Wendy and I decide to camp a little closer to home. We really enjoy being with our family and getting to enjoy camping and glamping when we have the opportunity with them. Our kids and grandkids live in north Alabama so we decided to camp at Lake Guntersville, which is part of the Alabama State Parks system.
Lake Guntersville State park is located in northeast Alabama along the banks of the Tennessee River. It received the 2020 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award for good reason. It offers several different types of activities some of which we enjoyed while there. They have a 18-hole golf course, zip lines, hiking and biking trails, an outdoor nature center, and a beach area, as well as some great fishing. Bald eagles and their nests are said to be around the lake although we weren’t to see one.
The RV park was full hookup with gravel spaces that were mostly level. There were bathhouses two of which offered washer and dryers. The campground store was convenient for any camping needs. Our kids’ dogs came along and enjoyed the dog park as well. The RV sites were $45 a night for each sight.
We recommend touring the park lodge at the top of the mountain. The views were spectacular of the lake. Also, there was a full service restaurant within the lodge called the Pinecrest Dining Room.
Northeast Alabama is considered the foothills of the Appalachian mountains with Lake Guntersville being a part of them. We recommend a visit if you are in this part of the state as the lake and the area is simply beautiful!
See you next month… Happy Trails!
